Davis is North Coast’s new Coach Developer
THE AFL North Coast is fortunate to have the services of Tim Davis as the region’s new Coach Developer.
The 46-year-old has a wealth of football experience to offer the local coaching fraternity having played plenty of senior football with South Australian clubs North Adelaide and Central District as well as spending time at the Crows after being picked up as Adelaide’s first selection in the 1998 rookie draft.
Davis’ new role will be to work with local coaches to develop and mentor them during their coaching journey. Having spent time playing under Malcolm Blight and Alistair Clarkson, Davis will have a lot of practical experience to call upon.
A teacher at St John Paul College in Coffs Harbour, Davis said that one of his goals is to help raise the confidence levels of those that are tossing up whether they should coach for the first time or not.
“I want to provide something like a ‘Coaching 101’ course for those who are taking their first steps into coaching,” Davis said.
“A resource that can be used to show that coaching a team, particularly at junior level, doesn’t require a wealth of footy knowledge.
“If a coach can provide an enjoyable environment, some training drills that are fun as well as help to improve players’ skills and confidence and manage the team on match day, then they’re already on the right path to being a good coach.”
Davis said that with the addition of another Youth Girls age group in 2024, he’d also like for this to be a catalyst for more females in the region to become coaches.
