DAY 1 REVIEW: Brilliant weather on the opening day of the 2023 Northern NSW Championships in Coffs Harbour was matched by some brilliant football.

The end of the first day of matches across the Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17 age groups for both boys and girls sees reigning Simon Smyth Cup holders Hunter Country leading the way but only by a very small margin ahead of the other four representative programs playing at the three-day event.

The Country teams won 9 of their 15 matches played to hold a narrow overnight lead ahead of Central Coast.

For the home town contingent, the Under 17 Boys were the pick of the North Coast Force crop after the young men dominated their three matches.

Also undefeated in that age group is Hunter Country which sets up an exciting clash when the two teams meet at C.ex Coffs International Stadium at 3.pm on Sunday.

The footy action on the second day of the Championships will start at 11.10am with matches continuing on the Stadium and the two Leisure Park fields into the night with matches being played under lights.

The final matches of the night session are due to finish at 7.45pm.

Entry to the event is free.
