Angus adds Allies honours to bumper season

Angus Anderson’s season as an elite football nomad takes on a new dimension on Sunday when he runs out for the Allies in the opening match of the Under 18 National Championships.

Having already played for the Sydney Swans Under 18 team in the NAB League and the Swans Reserves in the VFL, the Allies become Angus’ third elite team this season, and possibly his most important.

The Allies comprise the best players from NSW, ACT, Queensland, Tasmania, and the Northern Territory, and are set to compete against Victoria Metro, Victoria Country, South Australia, and Western Australia in the National Championships.

The Championships are being staged in a new format in 2022, with matches played on a home and away basis rather than the traditional carnival. Despite this change of format, all matches will be keenly watched by recruiters of all 18 AFL teams with a view towards identifying draft potential prospects.

South Australia are the first cab off the rank for the Allies team, with a trip to Adelaide booked for Sunday’s match at Thebarton Oval from 1:30pm.

Angus sealed his selection for the Allies team in a practice match last Sunday that saw the NSW/ACT and Tasmanian players take on their Queensland and Northern Territory counterparts. This is Angus’ second year in the team, however Sunday’s match will be his debut at the National Championships after last season’s event was cancelled due to COVID.

The Allies other commitments see them play Vic Metro on Saturday 25 June in Sydney, Vic Country on Sunday 3 July in Brisbane, and WA on Saturday 9 July in Adelaide.
