Northern Heat kids given work to do
A SUMMER of improving their fitness and strength awaits the members of the Northern Heat Development Program.
The boys and girls from both the AFL North Coast and AFL North West enjoyed the second session of the program on Saturday when they gathered at the University of New England in Armidale.
Along with ball work and some match scenario drills, the talented players born in 2008 and 2009 were also handed strength and running programs by the Heat’s Strength & Conditioning coach Matt Pine.
The Heat participants will now complete the programs laid out for them under their own steam.
Whether it be working alone or in small groups, the youngsters are expected to show signs of completing the strength work and running when the players regather for the next session which will be held in Coffs Harbour after the school holidays on February 1.
During the first session last month the Heat members completed a 1km time trial and a Yo-Yo test.
Their results were recorded. The group will perform the same tests on February 1 to see how much their fitness has improved over the summer.
