Angus is set for VFL debut with Swans
Angus Anderson takes another big step forward in his footy career on Sunday when he runs out for the Sydney Swans Reserves in the VFL competition for the first time.
Angus has earned selection for the VFL clash against the Footscray Bulldogs off the back of several impressive performances for the Swans Academy Under 19 team.
Angus flew to Melbourne to join up with the Swans and is training with the full squad of both AFL and VFL players who are all currently based in Melbourne ahead of both teams clashes with the Bulldogs on Sunday (the AFL team plays the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium at 3:20pm).
As a non-AFL listed player he’s not able to stay in the COVID bubble with the team so is staying at his Aunty Geri’s house whilst in Melbourne.
It’s been a big 15 months for Angus who was first spotted by the Southport Sharks team whilst playing for the Northern Heat and offered a five week trial with the club. This led to inclusion in the Swans Academy Top End program, which was followed by a place in the Swans Academy Under 19 team, and now a debut in the VFL competition.
The match is to be played at the Bulldogs home ground of Whitten Oval at 11:05am on Sunday 11 July and will be shown live on Kayo.
