Summer slog sees Heat fitness skyrocket

Members of the Northern Heat Development Program begin their Yo-Yo Tests.

MEMBERS of the Northern Heat Development Program gathered for the first time in 2024 and showed that they’ve spent the summer months working hard.

Saturday’s session at the Coffs Coast Sport & Leisure Park was the first time the Heat’s girls and boys had gathered since they received their holiday fitness and strength programs eight weeks ago.

This session saw the group perform the 1km Time Trial and Yo-Yo Tests that they did the very first time the program members trained together three months ago.

The results from today compared to that first session showed an improvement from many of the Heat members, particularly in the Yo-Yo Test.

The Northern Heat members will get together again in three weeks at Armidale before an early March session in Coffs Harbour when the talented players born in 2007 and 2008 will complete a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu lesson where they will learn about how best to position their bodies against an opponent to ensure they gain the positional advantage on game day.

The culmination of the summer program will be a trip to the Gold Coast on March 23 where the boys and girls will play matches against the Coolangatta Blues.
