Byron wins flag in battle of the Magpies

Woodlock Medallist Oliver Rojo kicks the Byron Bay Magpies into attack during the 2023 Senior Men's Grand Final.

THE Byron Bay Magpies put the pedal to the metal from the opening bounce and didn’t let up in the 2023 AFL North Coast Grand Final against Port Macquarie.

In a battle of the competition’s two Magpies teams, it was Byron that got the early jump kicking four unanswered goals in the opening term.

When Port Macquarie kicked a quick goal early in the second term via Tom Dickson it gave the reigning champs some hope of a comeback but it was snuffed out quickly by the AFL North Coast’s newest club.

Byron kicked five of the next six goals to take a match winning 42-point lead into half time. A lead that stretched to 62 by the final break.
