“On this day in September” – 22 September
With only three more historic key dates in the month of September to celebrate, the number three becomes central to today’s update as we look at our trifecta of three time League Best and Fairest winners.
1991 SENIOR PRESENTATION NIGHT
Brian Rava (Sawtell Toormina Saints) won the League Best and Fairest Medal for the first time. He repeated the feat the very next season, making him the first player in League history to win the award twice and to win it in successive seasons. In 1998 Brian was named Best and Fairest for a third time and became the first player to achieve this incredible feat. What a legend!
It would be another 16 years before a second player became a three time winner of the Best and Fairest. Mark Couzens (Sawtell Toormia Saints) accomplished this in 2014, and was followed by Jesse Schmidt (Port Macquarie Magpies) the following year to round out our three time winners.
