“On this day in September” – 23 September

We’re down to the second last September date that’s hosted major events in the history of AFL North Coast. Today we focus on one of the early years of the competition as the Grafton Tigers started to carve out a niche in League folklore.

1984 SENIOR PRESENTATION NIGHT
Despite South Coffs completing an historic clean sweep of the three Premierships for the year, Grafton’s Steve Smith was the recipient of the League Best and Fairest. Steve was the Tigers’ first B&F winner and was closely followed by Anthony Cummings in 1985, Darryl Isaacs in 1987, and Troy Mirkin in 1989.

After that early domination there was a long lean spell for the club before Mark Blundell became the next winner in 2004.
