“On this day in September” – 3 September

Our feature celebrating 40 seasons of major events that have occurred in September rolls on.

3 September has been another popular date on the calendar through the years, having hosted three Senior Grand Finals. See below for details.

2005 SENIOR GRAND FINALS
Sawtell Toormina Saints win the second Senior flag in the club’s history, ending an eight year wait.
Seniors: Sawtell Toormina Saints 7.11 (53) def North Coffs Kangaroos 6.4 (40)
Future club President Alex Pearson (Sawtell) is awarded the Woodlock Medal as B.O.G.
Reserves: After a season where the competition wasn’t contested, Port Macquarie Magpies claim their third flag in a row
Under 18: Nambucca Valley Lions win the club’s first ever North Coast Premiership

2011 SENIOR GRAND FINALS
A momentous occasion for the Grafton Tigers as the club wins its first Senior Premiership in its 30th season.
Seniors: Grafton Tigers 10.10 (70) def Port Macquarie Magpies 8.7 (55)
Evan Duryea (Grafton) is adjudged the B.O.G. and receives the Woodlock Medal
Reserves: Sawtell Toormina Saints break the Magpies’ stranglehold on the grade, winning for the first time since 1997
Under 18: North Coffs Kangaroos win the first of back to back Premierships

2016 SENIOR GRAND FINALS
Sawtell Toormina Saints complete a three-peat of Senior Premierships to equal Woolgoolga Blues’ record of nine flags.
Seniors: Sawtell Toormina Saints 9.9 (63) def Coffs Harbour Breakers 6.10 (46)
Current Saints coach Brandt Lee receives the Woodlock Medal as B.O.G.
Reserves: Sawtell Toormina Saints claim their second Reserves flag in a row
Under 18: Coffs Harbour Breakers go back to back in the under age competition
The flying Aiden Wallace (Breakers) receives the Nathan Harris Medal as B.O.G.
