“On this day in September” – 2 September

Our feature celebrating 40 seasons of major events that have occurred in September rolls on.

2 September has been a date when two Senior Competition Grand Finals have been staged, with both the 2006 and 2017 deciders falling on this date.

2006 SENIOR GRAND FINALS
Sawtell Toormina Saints went back to back, claiming the third Senior flag in the club’s history.

2017 SENIOR GRAND FINALS
Coffs Harbour Breakers claim their first ever Senior flag in their third season as a merged entity.
Seniors: Coffs Harbour Breakers 15.10 (100) def Sawtell Toormina Saints 8.11 (59)
Harry Parker (Breakers) receives the Woodlock Medal as B.O.G.
Reserves: Sawtell Toormina Saints reverse the Senior result to claim their third straight Reserves flag
Lachlan Draper-Bell (Sawtell) claims the medal as B.O.G.
Under 18: Grafton Tigers end the Breakers winning run to win a nail biter by just two points
Damien Dickson (Breakers) receives the Nathan Harris Medal as B.O.G. despite being in the losing team
