Thank you to volunteers everywhere
National Volunteer Week is the annual celebration to acknowledge the generous contribution of our nation’s volunteers, including those who perform all key roles in footy clubs.
The year 2020 started with volunteer fire fighters risking their lives to protect others. Now, amidst the COVID-19 crisis, we’re seeing people volunteering their time to look after the vulnerable in our community by taking on roles such as delivering meals, doing shopping, and checking in with others.
Although footy clubs aren’t currently able to function in their normal ways, club committee members, coaches, and other key volunteers are still working hard behind the scenes to ensure that clubs are ready to hit the ground running as soon as the state government and AFL give the green light.
Footy club volunteers give countless hours each week, month, and year organising player recruitment, sponsorship, uniforms, club functions, playing equipment, coaching sessions, canteens, and match day co-ordination. Many volunteers take on multiple roles to ensure that all club functions are covered for the benefit of club members.
AFL NSW/ACT thanks all club volunteers for the invaluable work they do in any given season, and especially so for their efforts in these challenging times. Most of the work that volunteers undertake is done out of the public gaze but is never unappreciated.
We encourage all footy lovers to thank a club volunteer this week for their efforts.
