Initial men’s squad for rep game named

Max Lower in the thick of the action in the 2016 Senior rep fixture vs. AFL North West.

THE 22 men who will represent the AFL North Coast in the League’s first men’s representative match since 2018 will come the 40 players who have been named in the initial squad.

The squad boats a mixture of exprerience and youth ahead of the match to be played against the North West Blue Heelers in Gunnedah on June 28.

Coach of the men’s team, Ben Watson, said he’s thrilled with the calibre of the players in the initial squad.

“The squad boasts a good mixture of experience and youth,” Watson said.

“The early feedback is there’s a lot of enthusiasm among the group to play in the first men’s representative match the AFL North Coast will play since 2018.”

The North Coast vs. North West clash has been played 13 times in the past between 1998 and 2018. Watson said the match on June 28 provides an opportunity for the North Coast Force to win back the Challenge Shield that the two Leagues play for after the North West won the past two meetings in 2017 and 2018.

“We want to bring that Challenge Shield back to the North Coast for the first time since 2016,” he said.
