‘Banger’ joins illustrious group with medal win

FORMER Sawtell/Toormina player Angus Anderson was named as the Jack Oatey Medal winner for being the best player on the ground in the SANFL Grand Final.
Anderson was playing for Sturt against Glenelg and the Double Blues won the premiership with Andewrson being a driving force behind the 105-74 win.
‘Banger’ cllected 24 disposals and nine marks in the Grand Final and kicked a goal on the three-quarter time siren that gave Sturt a 44-point lead heading into the final term.
The win sees Anderson’s name join greats of South Australian football like Russell Ebert, Stephen Kernahan, Tony Hall, Bruce Abernethy and Nathan Buckley as a winner of the Jack Oatey Medal.
When asked after the game by SANFL radio about his background, the 22-year-old spoke with genuine fondness about his home town and the club he played with from Auskick all the way through to the senior team.
“Sawtell is a coastal town in Northern NSW not really renowned for its AFL in a sense but I have such a good, core group of mates and they’d be watching back home now and the footy club is all about it and they love it and I love ‘em really back there,” Anderson said.
