AFL North Coast reaches new record number of players

THE number of registered players in the AFL North Coast has hit the 1,350 mark.

A number of players registered with a club last week to take the total number of players in the league past last year’s record number of 1,330.

This number represents Year-on-Year growth of 1.5% compared to the end of the 2024 season.

Community Football and Competition Manager Brad Greenshields said recording growth at this stage of the year is an amazing result.

“When you take into consideration how many training sessions, pre-season Come & Try days and even matches have been missed over the past three months due to rain and ground closures, to have more players registered than ever before is something our footy community should be really proud of,” Greenshields said.

“This is a pat on the back for the volunteers at our clubs who create great environments that make players want to not only jpin but also keep coming back every year.

“Recognition also needs to go out to the AFL’s Participation & Programs team who conduct school programs and have also promoted AFL to younger students in record numbers this year.”

The number of AFL North Coast player registrations as at 22 June 2025 shows continued Year-on-Year growth in the region.

A deeper dive into the numbers shows that the AFL North Coast’s player numbers have grown by 18.42% since the 2022 season.

A lot of this growth can be attributed to the junior age groups that have seen their numbers swell from 578 in 2022 to 886 this year. This is growth of more than 50% in that period.

Over the past three years the ratio of male players to female players has consistently been around the 65%:35% mark which shows the growth the League has enjoyed has been in both the male and female space.

“There’s still time for players to register this year and enjoy a couple of months of playing footy. This could see the number of players continue to grow until the end of the season,” Greenshields said.
