Swans face must win AFLW clash in Coffs
THE Sydney Swans are facing a virtual Elimination Final when they face Essendon in their final round AFLW match to be played in Coffs Harbour on Saturday.
The Swans currently sit in ninth position on the ladder and simply must beat the Bombers at C.ex Coffs International Stadium to reach the 2025 AFLW Finals.
The Swans have found form at the right time of year winning two of their past three matches including a 17-point win over the West Coast Eagles on Saturday which was also a must-win encounter.
After the win on Saturday, Sydney Swans coach Scott Gowans said the match in Coffs Harbour will be part of a nail-biting end to the home and away season.
“It’s such an exciting end to the season which is what the AFL wanted and they’re going to get it,” Gowans said.
“The ball is in our court which is what we wanted.”
When the first bounce takes place at the Stadium at 5.05pm, the Swans will be hoping for the return from injury of a number of players including Sofia Hurley to boost their chances of reaching the finals even further.
History suggests it will be a close contest though. While the Swans are favoured to win, the past two encounters between these two teams have resulted in two victories to Essendon with the margin on both occasions being less than a goal.
