Grand Final dates pushed back to later in the year

TO help catch-up games that have been missed due to the wet weather, the Grand Finals of both the Senior and Junior competitions have been moved back.

The Junior Grand Finals which were originally fixtured to be played on Sunday, August 24 will now be played a week later on Sunday August 31.

The Senior Grand Finals have been pushed back three weeks and will now be played on Saturday, September 13.

The change allows the junior competition to have an additional round of Home & Away matches played to include a large portion of the matches that have been lost due to ground closures.

All of the matches that have been missed so far in the senior competitions will be able to be played during the three weeks that have been added to the season.

The fixture on PlayHQ with the updated match times and venues will be updated over the next 48 hours.

Community Football & Competition Manager Brad Greenshields said the start to the season has provided an extraordinary circumstance that required some unusual thinking to provide a solution.

“Changing the grand final date is something that you only hear about rarely but considering how much football has been missed so far this season, it’s a justified action,” Greenshields said.

“What playing the additional matches means is that at the end of the season players will feel like they’ve played a satisfactory amount of matches. Clubs can also recruit players yet to register promising them an increased number of matches for them to play in.

“Additionally it helps players and parents get value for money for the registration fees they’ve paid which is important.”
