AFLW match to be played in Coffs Harbour
An AFLW match for premiership points is going to be played at the C.ex Coffs International Stadium in September.
The Sydney Swans AFLW team will be playing against Richmond on Saturday, September 14.
The fixture for the 2024 NAB AFL Women’s season was released today and it revealed the exciting news for the North Coast’s footy community.
“It’s an exciting opportunity for our regional members and fans to see elite footy in action, after Coffs has been home to pre-season training camps for both our men’s and women’s programs, as well as a key hub for both our QBE Sydney Swans Academy and our ARA First Nations Foundations program,” a spokesperson for the Sydney Swans said.
Earlier this year the Swans men conducted a pre-season and community camp in Coffs Harbour while in 2023 the women’s team trained at the C.ex Coffs International Stadium as well as spending a Sunday morning visiting some AFL North Coast Youth Girls matches to encourage the local players.
Community Football and Competition Manager for Northern NSW, Brad Greenshields, said female participation numbers in the region continue to grow and the Sydney Swans investment in the region has helped boost those numbers.
“Players of all ages will be able to see their heroes up close when they head to the C.ex Coffs International Stadium to watch the Swans play against the Tigers,” Greenshields said.
“While Richmond have stars like Katie Brennan, Monique Conti and Ellie McKenzie, being able to see the shining lights from the Swans like Chloe Molloy, Ally Morphett and Laura Gardiner will help to further strengthen the ties the Sydney Swans have with the North Coast region.”
