Breakers the first to title number two

The Coffs Breakers celebrate their victory in the Women's Grand Final.

THE Coffs Breakers became the first team to win two Women’s premierships.

The previous four Women’s Grand Finals saw four different winners, including the Breakers in 2020.

Saturday’s 16-point win over Northern Beaches saw the Breakers become the first to reach the two title milestone.

First quarter goals from Phoebe Baptiste and Sarah Vidler got the Breakers off to a great start to build belief within the group that they were capable of causing an upset against the reigning champs.

While Gina Cardillo collected plenty of possessions for the Blues, the Breakers focus on gaining territory and gaining it as quick as possible saw them prevail in a second half where Northern Beaches threw everything at the opposition.

The third quarter saw Northern Beaches have opportunities to reduce the margin but the Blues couldn’t quite turn their shots on goal into a much needed major or two.

The last term was a dour affair with both sides fighting tooth and nail in the clinches but the Coffs team weathered the Northern Beaches storm to prevail.

Shannon Goodenough clears from defence for the Coffs Breakers.
