Northern NSW Championships underway
MORE than 600 junior players from up and down the coast ripped into the first day of Northern NSW Carnival action on Monday.
The first day of action at C.ex Coffs International Stadium and outside grounds saw a veritable festival of football take place with 35 matches played across the under-13, under-15 and under-17 age groups.
In the battle for the inaugural Simon Smyth Cup, the victor of the carnival is decided by which region wins the highest percentage of total matches played across all age groups, both boys and girls.
Illawarra has travelled the furthest for the three-day event and their 13 Girls team started strongly winning two of their three matches.
Even though North Coast enjoyed the home ground advantage the locals had a mixed day results wise winning four of their 12 matches.
Central Coast had similar results in their opening day matches.
afyer the first day the Smyth Cup looks like a battle between Hunter Metro and Hunter Country.
The action continues on Tuesday on Wednesday with play on both days starting at 9am.
