Juniors can’t wait to get back into the swing

After a week’s break during the school holidays the AFL North Coast Junior Competition resumes on Sunday, and the players in all age groups can’t wait!

With matches scheduled for Grafton, Woolgoolga, Coffs Harbour, Sawtell, and Port Macquarie there will be smiles right across the region as Junior players chase a Sherrin around the oval.

Coming off the back of the pandemic shortened season in 2020 the juniors are loving the chance to get back to a full season this year. This has been reflected in the number of registered players and competing teams, which are both back to being comparable to the 2019 pre-COVID numbers.

On field, the standard of footy has improved again in 2021 which is a credit to the local coaches and to the efforts that players are making at training and in matches. There are more close results each week in every age group and this makes for exciting times for players and spectators alike!

As the competition heads into the last four rounds of the season there is much to play for as most teams are still in the hunt for Finals places. Whether teams make the Finals or not, the key element for all involved with Junior footy over the remaining rounds and Finals is to make sure that the players are enjoying themselves and want to come back next season.

The Grafton Tigers Youth Girls and Under 15 have to cool their jets for one week before they get back out on the oval as both teams have the bye this weekend.
