Angus Anderson has taken another big step in his footballing journey with selection in the Under 19 Allies squad.

Coached by former AFL player Andrew Raines, the squad will attend a training camp from 25-27 June with each player vying for selection for the 2021 NAB AFL Under 19s Championships, which begins on 8 July in Queensland.

The Allies team comprises players from NSW, ACT, Queensland, Northern Territory and Tasmania and will face off against representative sides from Vic Metro, Vic Country, South Australia and Western Australia. Each team plays four matches throughout the Championships.

Angus’ inclusion in the squad comes after a number of standout performances for the Sydney Swans Academy Under 19 team in the NAB League where he has captained the team and been awarded best on ground by his team mates. This followed on from the five week trial Angus had with the Southport Sharks VFL team which saw him included on the team’s supplementary list.

Inclusion in the Allies squad is a just reward for the commitment Angus has shown over several years. In 2019 Angus temporarily relocated to Melbourne following his selection in the Eastern Ranges Under 16 NAB League team, last year he made two trips per week to the Gold Coast from his home in Sawtell for the five weeks of the Southport trial, and this year he has made numerous mid week trips to Sydney to attend Swans Academy training and has played NAB League matches for the Swans in Melbourne and Sydney.

Not only has Angus demonstrated his commitment to pursuing representative opportunities, he continues to show his commitment to local footy, turning out for the Sawtell Toormina Saints Senior team at every possible opportunity.

Last year’s winner of the AFL North Coast Under 17 Best and Fairest and runner-up in the Senior medal is not only forging his own path towards the elite game, he’s also showing the current crop of North Coast Force players that there’s a pathway to the top from local footy if they’re prepared to work hard enough.
