Seeking Umpires, Coaches, and Mentors
AFL North Coast is committed to growing and supporting umpires within the Junior and Senior Competitions. We’re looking for people who are keen to take on the important roles on Umpire Coach and Mentor to contribute to the development of umpiring within the region.
Umpire Mentors provide match day guidance, motivation, emotional support and role modeling to the individuals. A Mentor doesn’t need to be an umpire themself, they just need to be someone that has a sound understanding of the rules and are wanting to learn a new skill. All training and support will be provided throughout the season.
This role would be perfect for a parent of an umpire or a club member that has an interest in umpiring.
Umpire Coaches run regular, midweek training sessions for umpires to assist with the development of skills and knowledge. The role is supported and will be guided by the Northern NSW Umpire Development Coordinator who has access to plenty of drills and other coaching information.
The role is aimed towards current or returning umpires that have a minimum of two years’ experience.
An Umpire Mentor and Coach Education Day will be held on Saturday 8 February from 10:00am to 1:00pm in Coffs Harbour to provide training and support to anyone who is interested in these roles. For more details please see the flyer.
In addition to the above, AFL North Coast is looking for Umpires to officiate in all age groups and grades across both the Junior and Senior Competitions. To start umpiring an individual must be turning 13 years of age in the current season.
Beginning umpires must complete a brief online course on the Laws of the Game, and should attend an umpire training session that will cover both theory and practical components of the role. This training session will be held on Sunday 1 March from 10:00am to 1:00pm at Nambucca RSL.
