Hodoniczky wins Brian Saville Medal
PORT Macquarie midfielder Luke Hodoniczky capped off a prolific season with a runaway win in the 2024 Brian Saville Medal.
The 21 year-old polled five best-on-grounds during the counting of the votes on his way to an impressive tally of 20, nine votes ahead of runner-up Ned O’Neill from Grafton.
Hodoniczky, who hails from Lauderdale on the east side of the River Derwent near Hobart, had built such a lead over the rest of the leading contenders that he was assured of winning the medal with three rounds of voting still to be conducted.
Hodoniczky is now the seventh Port Macquarie player to win the prestigious honour.
He joins Brad Payne, Nev Stephens, Chris Martens, Matt Newton, Kyle Bray and three-time winner and current teammate Jesse Schmidt as Magpies who’ve won the medal.
Hodoniczky has the chance this Saturday to win the Premiership-Brian Saville Medal double as his Magpies face the Coffs Breakers in the Grand Final being played at C.ex Coffs International Stadium.
