Hutchings and Hull win B&F double for Byron

Byron Bay Magpies' midfielder Lilli Hutchings won the AFL North Coast's Women's Best & Fairest award.

THE AFL North Coast’s Senior Best & Fairest counts has seen Byron Bay Magpies players claim the highest individual accolade in both the men’s and women’s competitions.

Midfielder Lilli Hutchings earned two votes in the final Home & Away round of the season to win the Women’s award by just one vote ahead of two-time winner Gina Carrillo from Northern Beaches and Port Macquarie’s Ellie Ryan.

The Brian Saville Medal for the best player in the men’s competition for 2023 was won by fellow Byron player Blayne Hull.

Hull polled 23 votes for the season to finish six votes ahead of runner-up Jai Langenberg from Sawtell/Toormina.

The leading pair were well ahead of the other players on the Brian Saville Medal leaderboard.

After finishing runner-up in the Paul Sheldon Medal count last year, Nambucca Valley’s Alec Baldwin went one better in 2023 to win the prize for being the best player of the season in the Reserves.

Baldwin finished ahead of teammate Aaron Clarke and Port Macquarie’s Brendan Badenoch.

Having won the Best & Fairest award in the Under 17s in 2022, Jai Bowd backed up to win the Under 18s Best & Fairest this year.

The Sawtell/Toormina player finished one vote ahead of Oscar McKenzie from the Coffs Breakers and Chad Anderson from the Saints.
