Third term burst sets up Breakers win
ROUND 2 REVIEW: A six goal third quarter paved the way for the Coffs Breakers paved the way for them reversing the result of last year’s grand final.
At half time both the Breakers and reigning premier Port Macquarie had failed to capitalise on their opportunities in front of goal and the combined score of the two teams was a woefully inaccurate three goals and 22 behinds with the Magpies leading by just four points.
The third term is called the premiership quarter and the Breakers kicked six goals to two to take control of the contest.
The women’s game at Fitzroy Oval had scores level early in the third term with the Breakers on 1.7 and the Magpies 2.1. It was Port who won the arm wrestle booting the last four goals of the match. Lauren Richards kicked three goals for the victors.

The Byron Bay Magpies celebrated their first AFL North Coast home game with a win in the men’s game over Sawtell/Toormina.
The young Saints matched their more experienced opponents throughout the first half, highlighting that the club has a promising future ahead.
However after half time Byron’s mature bodies and slicker execution allowed them to go on several scoring runs that set up the victory.
The women’s game had an exciting climax after Byron kicked two quick goals in the last term to make the difference just four points with five minutes remaining.
The Saints maintained their composure to win the territory battle in the final few minutes to ensure the Magpies didn’t get ac hance to win the game.

Ellem Oval looks like once again being a fortress for Grafton.
The Tigers men were undefeated at home last year and they kept the winning streak going on Saturday against Northern Beaches.
Brayden Lollback and Blake Noll kicked four goals each for the winners.
Northern Beaches women extended their winning streak to 11 with a win over Grafton.
Ashleigh Miller was best on the ground for the Blues with four goals. Grafton young guns Lili Doyle and Mackenzie Bagnall kicked goal each for the Tigers.
