Lions shine brightest under lights

SEVEN goals to one in the second half paved the way for Nambucca Valley to turn a dominant season into an under-15s premiership.

The Lions led by just 8 points at half time against the Port Swoopers but when the lights at C.ex Coffs International Stadium took full effect in the early evening, Nambucca Valley shifted up a gear to put the result behind doubt.

The Swoopers will rue inaccurate kicking for goal in the first term. The Port Macquarie team played the better football in the opening term and enjoyed a territorial advantage but was unable to get a couple of goals on the board to give them the start they deserved.

The Lions didn’t need a second invitation to make their mark on the scoreboard.

Having got the better of a typical grand final arm wrestle in the first half, Nambucca Valley had nine scoring shots in the third quarter while keeping the Swoopers scoreless.

The Lions should’ve had a larger lead than 31 points at the final change but kicking 3.6 in the premiership quarter allowed the Swoopers some hope.

That hope quickly disappeared as Nambucca Valley kept the pedal to the metal and kicked four majors in the final term to cruise away to a 49 point victory.
