Flyers top of the Port Macquarie tree
THE battle of Port Macquarie’s under-11s saw the Flyers prove too strong for the Swoopers.
It was a case of Flyers by name, Flyers by nature in the first term with the team wearing their jumpers inside out to avoid a jumper clash racing out of the blocks early to build a 19 point lead that was never truly threatened.
It wasn’t through a lack of effort by the Swoopers though.
In fact midway through the second term Tom Spencer provided one of the highlights of the whole day when he weaved his way past three Flyers then let rip with a long range torpedo punt that sailed between the big sticks
The Swoopers aimed to pile on more pressure after the long interval but it was to no avail.
The Flyers peppered the goals without getting the full reward for its efforts but the backline was determined and didn’t allow the Swoopers to score for the term.
It was a disappointing end to the season for the Swoopers who were on top of the ladder for the majority of the season but the Flyers hit their straps late in the season and carried that hot form into the season finale.
