Breakers ‘Pride’ at going four from four

The Coffs Breakers and Port Macquarie will meet in the 2002 AFL North Coast Senior Mens Grand Final.

THE Coffs Breakers won all four AFL North Coast Pride Round matches against Port Macquarie.

The Magpies got off to a great start in the senior men’s match to lead by 10 points at the first change but the Breakers wrested control of the contest kicking a total of nine goals to two across the second and third quarters.

For the second week in a row Nicklaus Stanlan-Velt kicked seven goals for the Breakers but this time in a winning cause with the home team securing a 28 point victory and entrenching themselves into the top two on the ladder.

Grafton survived a late scare with Northern Beaches coming home strong in the last quarter to almost reverse an 18 point three quarter time deficit.

The Blues will rue inaccurate kicking for goal in the final quarter as they kicked 1.7 to 0.3 which proved costly with the final margin being just 8 points.

Northern Beaches women recorded a strong win over Grafton with the trio of Keira Bassett, Jess Midivaine and Gabby Boyle proving dangerous in front of goal kicking five, four and three majors respectively.

The Breakers women maintained their place at the top of the ladder with a strong win over third placed Port Macquarie.

The Coffs team led by 25 points at the final break but put theft on the gas in the last term to draw away to a 50 point win. Hayley Carlisle was prominent with four goals.
