Tigers maintain unbeaten record
A SIX-GOAL win over Sawtell/Toormina has seen Grafton’s men continue its unbeaten start to the 2022 season.
While the final score of 16.15 (111) to 10.5 (65) looks like a comfortable victory for the Tigers it was anything but.
Sawtell/Toormina was constantly within striking distance of the home team but when the Saints enjoyed periods of momentum, they were unable to score consecutive goals.
This allowed Grafton to maintain a slender lead throughout the contest and the Tigers led by 19 points at final break.
Nic Wheaton shone in the final term kicking three goals to take his tally to five for the day.
Sawtell/Toormina’s women moved into the top three on the ladder with a strong first half laying the platform for a 26-point win at Ellem Oval.
The Saints have now won three of their five matches and Elaine Thornycroft was again the beneficiary of the midfield’s strong work booting four goals to take her tally to 10 for the season.
Grafton’s home was also the venue for an under-17s clash between Swatell/Toormina and the Coffs Breakers. The Breakers produced a strong second half kicking 10 goals to three after the main break to record a 55 point victory.
The Beakers reserves team was also on the road, travelling to Casino to face the Lions. The Breakers led by six goals at quarter time and gradually pulled away after that to record a comfortable victory over a Casino line-up hat was thrilled to play its second match of the season.
Magpies enjoy the comforts of home
FOR the first time this season Port Macquarie was able to play at their Wayne Richards Park home and the Magpies took full advantage.
The Magpies won all three of their matches against Northern Beaches starting with the women hanging on for a nail biting win by just five points.
The home team had just four scoring shots compared to nine from the Blues but accurate kicking for goal proved the difference with the final scoreline reading 4.0 (24) to 2.7 (19).
For the Blues it was their third loss of the season, all three by less than two goals.
Port Macquarie’s men recorded their first win of the season in convincing fashion.
The Magpies kicked three unanswered goals in the opening term and followed up with another three goals to one in the second to open up what proved to be an unassailable lead.
For the home team, Kye Taylor, Will Kelly and Luke Hodoniczky kicked three goals each while Evan Duryea kicked all three of Northern Beaches goals.
