A strong individual showing in a dominant team performance has seen Hamish Anderson retain his place in the Sydney Swans Academy Open team for round 2 of the Male Northern Academy Series.

Having disposed of the Giants by 44 points in Canberra last Saturday, Hamish and the team now turn their focus to Game 2 in the series against the Gold Coast Suns in Brisbane on Sunday.

Playing on a wing, a key element of Hamish’s role is to deliver the ball into the forward line and create chances for the forwards to score. With the team booting 14 goals against the Giants it’s instantly evident that Hamish and his midfield colleagues ticked that box.

While he was happy with the way he played in game one, Hamish isn’t resting on his laurels.

“It was a big step up in standard and there were plenty of nerves before I got out there, but I’m happy that I played my role. There’s always things you can improve and I’ll look to build on how I played in that first game and do even better against the Suns,” Hamish said.

Older brother Angus has also been selected in the team after he was named amongst the best performers in the match against the Giants, but is under an injury cloud after hurting his ankle at training on Monday.

Other players in the team include the sons of Sydney Swans legends and current coaches John Longmire and Brett Kirk so the Anderson boys are definitely in the right place to be identified to go further.

Hamish heads to Sydney today (Thursday) to train with the team and will stay in the state’s capital until Sunday morning so he can fly to Brisbane with his teammates. The match will be played at Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex at 12:15pm on Sunday.

With Hamish and Angus involved in the male Northern Academy Series, and April Devine, Cass Ronalds, and Lilli Moody recently finishing the Women’s Summer Series, the North Coast is building a strong reputation for developing quality footy players. The first step on the pathway to higher honours is with the North Coast Force representative teams – nominations are still open and the final trial is on Sunday 27 March so nominate now at this link!
