Nambucca Lions are the pride of the valley
The Lions Under 15 team have been honoured with the Junior Sports Team Award at the Nambucca Valley Council’s annual National Celebration Day Awards.
In an area that has traditionally been dominated by Rugby League, it’s fantastic to see that the Lions have been recognised by an independent body such as the Council for their on field efforts.
The award is presented to a team that has achieved outstanding success, competed at a State or National level or achieved consistent results at a regional or local level. In 2021 the Lions team qualified for the Under 15 Grand Final after finishing the season in second place on the ladder, level on winning percentage with Port Macquarie Magpies who were in first place.
Unfortunately, the Grand Finals were unable to be played due to COVID restrictions.
The team first played in the League as Under 11 in 2017 when they won half their matches. In 2018 they won the Under 11 Grand Final being undefeated throughout the year, then were back to back Under 13 Premiers in 2019 and 2020.
