“On this day in September” – 20 September
Following on from last night’s Brownlow Medal presentation, and as the AFL North Coast season awards get underway, it’s time to look back to two previous occasions when the League Best & Fairest Medal was presented on this date.
1986 SENIOR PRESENTATION NIGHT
In just the League’s fifth year of existence, Mark O’Malley capped a Premiership win for South Coffs by becoming the club’s second ever Best and Fairest Medalist.
1997 SENIOR PRESENTATION NIGHT
Port Macquarie Magpies missed out on a spot in that year’s Grand Final, but not for a lack of effort by their star man Brad Payne who was awarded the League’s highest honour for an outstanding season.
