“On this day in September” – 6 September

In today’s edition we go as far back into our history as we’ve been so far – all the way back to the Grand Finals of the Senior Competition in 1987!

6 September has also been a big day for the awarding of Best and Fairest Medals, with three of these announced on this date through the years.

1987 SENIOR GRAND FINALS
Woolgoolga Blues win the Senior flag for the fourth time in just the League’s sixth season.
Seniors: Woolgoolga Blues 18.18 (116) def South Coffs 10.18 (78)
Reserves: South Coffs continued their run of winning every Reserves competition since inception in 1983, i.e. five to that point
Under 18: South Coffs continue to be the only club to have been crowned Premiers since the competition started in 1983 (although a one year competition hiatus in 1985 makes this four in a row).

1992 SENIOR PRESENTATION NIGHT
Brian Rava (Sawtell) wins the second of what will ultimately become three Best and Fairest Medals.

2003 SENIOR PRESENTATION NIGHT
Greg Jarman (North Coffs) adds the League Best and Fairest Medal to the Premiership medal won seven days earlier.

2008 SENIOR PRESENTATION NIGHT
Sam Dawes (North Coffs) caps a great individual season when he claims the Best and Fairest Medal.
