“On this day in September” – 1 September

Our new feature celebrating 40 seasons of major events that have occurred in September kicks off today.

1 September has been the day that’s hosted most Senior Grand Finals down the years, with four of the ‘big dances’ being held on this date.

2001 SENIOR GRAND FINALS
North Coffs Kangaroos won the first of four straight Premierships
Seniors: North Coffs Kangaroos 13.11 (89) def Coffs Swans 9.10 (64)
Reserves: Woolgoolga Blues win the last of three straight flags
Under 18: Woolgoolga Blues win the first of back to back titles

2007 SENIOR GRAND FINALS
Port Macquarie Magpies win the second of the club’s three Senior Premierships
Seniors: Port Macquarie Magpies 11.11 (77) def Sawtell Toormina Saints 10.9 (69)
Dean Nankervill (Port) claims the Woodlock Medal as B.O.G.
Reserves: Port’s Premiership run continues with its fifth straight flag
Under 18: Coffs Swans win their second straight title, and eighth overall

2012 SENIOR GRAND FINALS
Grafton Tigers go back to back with their second ever Senior flag
Seniors: Grafton Tigers 16.8 (104) def Sawtell Toormina Saints 7.14 (56)
Lee Anderson (Grafton) is awarded the Woodlock Medal as B.O.G.
Reserves: Coffs Swans win their last ever Reserve Grade flag
Under 18: North Coffs go back to back in the age group

2018 SENIOR GRAND FINALS
Sawtell Toormina Saints claim an historic double – record breaking 10th Senior flag and inaugural Women’s premiership
Seniors: Sawtell Toormina Saints 12.11 (83) def Coffs Harbour Breakers 9.6 (60)
Hamish Bird (Sawtell) receives the Woodlock Medal as B.O.G.
Women: Sawtell Toormina Saints 6.6 (42) def Port Macquarie Magpies 0.4 (4)
Cambridge McCormick (Port) is awarded the B.O.G. despite playing in a losing team
Reserves: Port Macquarie Magpies win their tenth Reserve Grade title
Luke Boxhall (Port) claims the medal as B.O.G.
Under 17: Port Macquarie Magpies win their first underage title in four years
Ed Smith (Port) receives the Nathan Harris Medal as B.O.G.

In addition, the Grand Finals of the Mid North Coast Junior Competition were held on 1 September 2013.
