Magpies women are on a roll

HAVING won their past two matches and moved up to second position on the women’s ladder, Port Macquarie is heading to Fitzroy Oval on Saturday with some confidence.

Magpies co-coach Braden Saggers knows facing the Coffs Breakers is the toughest task there is women’s footy on the North Coast.

The Breakers are the reigning premier and currently on a 13-game winning streak dating back to last year.

Saggers still says a great effort from his team could see the home side toppled.

“They (Coffs Breakers) are clearly quite a good team and from all accounts play a tough style of football. I feel with us the way we’ve playing that if we take down a full side we can definitely put up a good fight,” Saggers said.

HAVING come so close to recording a first win of the season last week in Port Macquarie, Sawtell/Toormina is on the road again on Saturday. This time heading north to face the Lismore Swans.

Saints coach Bec Minichilli said

“The best thing that I can say about this team is they all listen and are willing try everything that their coaches have told them,”  Minichilli said.

“At Port Macquarie there were times when we gave some pretty solid feedback to the girls but they took it the right way. They went straight back out onto the ground and you could see them trying to do what we’d just told them.

“The first win isn’t too far away.”

Lismore Swans coach Ken McPherson said planning for this encounter has been made easier because of one simple fact about the Saints.

“I know absolutely nothing about them (Sawtell/Toormina),” McPherson admitted.

“Just concentrate on our girls and our football plan. So I’m looking forward to that, it’s back at home so we’ll have a fair few girls back in. We probably should be almost at full strength.”

A win for the Swans would see them go a long way toward entrenching themselves in the top four for the remainder of the season.
