AFLW is one step closer for local women
The pathway to AFLW has opened up for players in regional areas with AFL NSW/ACT announcing the introduction of a Talent ID Carnival to allow players to showcase their talents to the GWS GIANTS and other AFLW clubs.
The Talent ID Carnival will be held at Blacktown International Sports Park across the June long weekend (Saturday 6 and Sunday 7) and will comprise four representative teams:
- Sydney North/West
- Sydney South/East
- ACT/Southern NSW
- Regional Allies
The Regional Allies team will comprise players from AFL North Coast, AFL South Coast, AFL Sapphire Coast, AFL Hunter-Central Coast, AFL Central West, & AFL North West.
The carnival format will involve five round robin matches of 3 x 12-minute thirds on the Saturday and two matches of 4 x 15-minute quarters on the Sunday.
Players who are 18 years of age or older and are interested in being considered for the Regional Allies are to nominate via their local footy club by Friday 20 March.
With former North Coast locals Brianna McFarlane (Brisbane Lions) and Georgia Breward (Gold Coast Suns) already on AFLW club rosters this is a great chance for other North Coast women to put their name in the spotlight.
