Volunteer Hero of the week – Nicky Baade
In this weekly off-season feature we profile a club recipient of the Volunteer of the Year award to highlight the incredible work our volunteers do so that others can enjoy their footy.
This week’s Volunteer Hero is Nicky Baade from the Nambucca Valley Lions where she is the club President.
What do you love about volunteering?
I love watching the kids having fun, being active and making friends. It’s great getting to know different families and to know I am contributing to the growth of the club.
What’s your favourite volunteering moment?
There isn’t any one day which stands out from another. I enjoy when new families come into the club and see how welcoming and inclusive everyone is.
What skills has volunteering helped you to develop?
Volunteering has helped me to develop networks within our local community and patience.
How does your club support new volunteers?
The club supports volunteers through verbal appreciation and recognition at club functions.
What would you say to someone who’s thinking about volunteering?
It is a great way to support your local club and community. It’s a fantastic way to get to know local families.
In what areas will your club be looking for help in 2020?
The Lions are still at the early stage of development, we are always looking for volunteers throughout the season and on game days.
What do you love most about your footy club?
The Lions is an inclusive club that welcomes new families and appreciates those who continue to return each season. The club encourages kids of all skill levels to get amongst it and to do their best. We encourage the kids to support one another as this makes for successful teams.
