Local star becomes a SUN!
North Coast local product Georgia Breward has been selected by the Gold Coast Suns in the NAB AFLW Draft.
Georgia started her footy career with the Grafton Tigers, playing three seasons of Juniors with the club. She represented NSW/ACT at the Youth Girls National Championships for three consecutive years from 2016 to 2018 and was named in the 2017 All Australian Squad.
An injury to her ACL sustained during the 2018 National Championships that required reconstructive surgery and rehabilitation prevented her from nominating for last year’s draft. Her commitment and perseverance were rewarded when the SUNS called her name with their eighth and final selection in the Draft, which saw Georgia taken at pick 91 overall.
Matt Crawley, AFL NSW/ACT Development Manager, said “Georgia’s shown unbelievable resilience to come back from the disappointment of her knee injury. In recent seasons she’s played club footy for Coolangatta as part of her strive to be the best she can and has racked up huge numbers of kilometres travelling to games, training and rehab sessions.
“Georgia absolutely deserves her selection for the dedication and focus she’s constantly shown as she’s worked towards achieving this goal.”
Gold Coast SUNS AFLW Senior Coach David Lake said “It’s been a frustrating year for Georgia but the professionalism she’s shown in her rehab from her ACL injury has been on the next level.
“She has an unbelievable commitment to making herself the best player she can be and I’m sure she’ll make an early impact for us.”
Breward is a small midfielder, but what she lacks in size she makes up for with her courage, skills and decision-making standing out.
