The Northern Beaches Blues fairy tale shows no signs of abating as the Reserve Grade team’s win over Coffs Harbour Breakers sees them progress to the Grand Final in their first year back in the competition.

It’s incredible to think that this time last year, there was no Senior club at Woolgoolga. Fast forward twelve months and the Blues are one win away from a Premiership.

After a tight first quarter the Blues stole a jump on the Breakers in each of the second and third stanzas to hold a five goal lead going into the last term. Breakers managed to just shade the scoring in this quarter but couldn’t overcome such a healthy deficit.

Marcus Davey kicked three of the Blues seven goals, with Jake Millar adding a further two.

Breakers had Michael Townsend, Josh Hunt, and Aden Van Ryswyk each kick one goal.

In the Under 17 match, Sawtell Toormina Saints proved too strong for Coffs Harbour Breakers.

As the only Sawtell team in action on the day, the players knew they could give their all without having to back up in a higher grade. A brace of goals in each of the first two quarters saw the Saints open a handy four goal lead by half time. Breakers played their best footy in the third quarter and went toe to toe with the Saints, each team booting three majors during the term.

Both teams fatigued in the last quarter from the exertions of covering the wide, open spaces of the Stadium and the scoring dried up. Each team was only able to muster one further goal as the Saints finished 27 point winners.

Angus Anderson kicked three goals for the Saints, one coming from a great assist from younger brother Hamish, while the returning Sam Elder added two.

Franklin Antonysamburuma was the only multiple goal kicker for the Breakers. Quenten Close, Christian Massaad, and Aden Van Ryswyk kicked one goal apiece.

Sawtell Toormina Saints 9.7 (61) defeated Coffs Harbour Breakers 5.4 (34)
