Grafton make it two from two with Under 15 crown
The Tigers’ Under 15 team wasn’t to be outdone by the girls, completing their own undefeated Premiership with victory over Sawtell Toormina Saints.
Grafton started the match in perfect fashion with a four goal opening quarter to hold a 29 point lead at the first break. Sawtell changed things around at the first break and were able to limit the Tigers to just two goals in the second term, but couldn’t find a target up front to convert positive build up play.
The second half turned into an extremely tight contest between two well matched teams with neither able to blow the game apart. Grafton slightly shaded the second half, with two goals to the Saints’ one to turn the tables on their opponents from last year’s Grand Final.
Grafton captain Mikey Luxton never stopped running and was duly announced as the Tigers’ Best on Ground. Brayden Bowen won more than his share of ball across half back for Sawtell and used it to great effect to receive the Best on Ground for the Saints.
Mikey Luxton (Grafton) claimed the big three awards, adding the League Best and Fairest to his Premiership and Best on Ground medals. Jye Boehme (Grafton) was runner-up in the Best and Fairest, with Quenten Close (Macleay Valley Eagles) taking home the Rising Star award for best bottom age player.
Grafton Tigers 8.12 (60) defeated Sawtell Toormina Saints 1.6 (12)
