Close matches again in Women’s competition
The Women’s match between Northern Beaches/Grafton and Coffs Harbour Breakers was an absolute nail biter.
The Blue Tigers were full of confidence after the first win in the previous round and this showed with the way they attacked the contest against the ladder leaders. There were only two behinds scored in the first quarter, before the Blue Tigers kicked two goals against Breakers’ one in the second term to hold a 5 point lead at the long break.
Scoring was reversed in the third term to see Breakers hit the lead by six points at the last change and the game was well and truly in the balance. It remained this way through the last quarter as neither team could get a decisive stranglehold on the play and each team could only add one behind.
Danielle Watson, Lisa Flick, and Laura Young each kicked one goal for Breakers.
Britt Hargreaves was the only multiple goal scorer for the match with her two goals for Northern Beaches/Grafton, with Ash Miller adding the team’s third.
Coffs Harbour Breakers 3.7 (25) defeated Northern Beaches/Grafton 3.1 (19)
The bulk of the scoring in the match between Port Macquarie Magpies and Sawtell Toormina Saints happened in the first quarter where Port claimed a three goal to one lead. From this point on the match was a war of attrition with only one more goal added by Port in the third term to extend their lead to 15 points.
Sawtell tried valiantly to claw their way back into the match but the contest was so tight that there were only three behinds added for the term.
Casey Miosge was the leading scorer for Port with two goals. Cambridge McCormick and the returning Anishah Burnes added one goal each to round out the scoring for the home team.
In reply, Vienna Schoeffel was Sawtell’s lone goal kicker on a rare day where spearhead Keira Basset was held goalless.
Port Macquarie Magpies 4.5 (29) defeated Sawtell Toormina Saints 1.7 (13)
