Interesting results add intrigue to Senior matches
Last weekend’s results add interesting context to the round 10 fixtures in the AFL North Coast Senior competition.
Leaders Coffs Harbour Breakers make the trip north to Ellem Oval where they take on the Grafton Tigers.
The Breakers will be buoyed by last week’s come from behind win which has reinforced their belief in the credibility of their title challenge. Former players returning to the ranks has further bolstered the feeling within the group and the expectation will be a clinical win against the Tigers to extend the winning run to four in a row.
The Tigers find themselves at the opposite end of the spectrum. The team is in the midst of a challenging season where little has gone to plan but the core group of players keep turning up. Solace can be taken in the form of the team’s young guns who deserve a win for their effort alone.
The Port Macquarie club will see last week’s result as the one that got away and will be particularly disappointed that it happened at Wayne Richards Park to blot their home record. They have the chance to redress that this week when another home match brings the visit of Sawtell Toormina Saints.
This fixture looms as a danger match for the Magpies. The Saints looked like an improved outfit last week with better structures and more efficient movement of the ball. Key to their chances of beating a top two team for the first time in 2019 will be the quality and quantity of players that are prepared to travel to Port for this match. This hasn’t been the Saints strong suit this season, hopefully last week’s effort encourages more players to ensure they’re available.
A preview of the round 10 matches in the Women’s competition will appear online on Friday (28 June).
