Top two are opening a gap in Women’s comp
Coffs Harbour Breakers bounced back from the disappointment of last week’s loss to record one of the biggest wins in the team’s brief history over Northern Beaches/Grafton.
The Breakers flew out of the blocks to kick five goals in the opening term and hold Northern Beaches/Grafton scoreless.
The joint venture side fought their way back into the contest early in the second term and was able to stem the flow of goals against them, but they continued to find a path to goal hard to find. It wasn’t until the third term that Rani Grant was able to post the “Blue Tigers” first major of the match and by this stage the result was already beyond them.
Katika Adams had a day out for the Breakers, booting seven goals, while Danielle Watson and Kyah Griffith each added two. Rani Grant ended the match as Northern Beaches/Grafton’s only goal kicker.
Coffs Harbour Breakers 12.8 (80) defeated Northern Beaches Blues 1.5 (11)
Sawtell Toormina Saints’ massive injury list finally took its toll with the team unable to make the trip south to face the Port Macquarie Magpies.
The result has significant implications, maintaining the Magpies position in first place and, more importantly, opening a six point gap between Breakers in second and Sawtell in third. Saints will be sweating on the return of players after next weekend’s general bye as they can’t afford to lose contact with the top two.
