Local clubs celebrate Indigenous Round

As AFL clubs at the elite level celebrate Sir Doug Nicholls Round to focus on the contribution Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have made to our game, they will be joined in the celebrations by two local Junior clubs.

Both Sawtell Toormina Saints and Macleay Valley Eagles have their own celebrations planned to acknowledge the highly valued roles that local Indigenous people play within their clubs.

The Saints have been at the local forefront of these celebrations with this being the fourth edition of the annual event. Richardson Park, Sawtell is the venue on Sunday (26 May) with plans including a Welcome to Country, smoking ceremony, dancers, story telling, and Indigenous food.

Matches get underway at 9:30am with celebrations scheduled for 10:50am.

Macleay Valley Eagles will be hosting their first Indigenous Day at South Kempsey Oval on Sunday 26 May. Celebrations there will include a Welcome to Country, smoking ceremony, didgeridoo performance, traditional dancing, raffles, and more!

First match of the day is at 9:30am and celebrations start at 10:55am.
