AFLW founder to speak at Women’s footy lunch in Coffs
The inspirational Susan Alberti AC is set to be keynote speaker at the Women in AFL luncheon to be held at C.ex Coffs on Friday 5 October.
Susan is a former Vice President of the Western Bulldogs AFL club and was a key driver in the formation of the hugely popular AFLW competition. Outside of footy, Susan has been a highly successful business woman as well as a philanthropist, fundraiser and advocate for Type 1 diabetes care and research.
Susan was featured on ABC TV’s Australian Story in 2016 in an episode titled ‘A League of Their Own’. This show looked at the development of the AFLW competition, including the key role that Susan played in getting it off the ground, and can be viewed here.
In the past two years the involvement of Women in AFL on the North Coast has grown out of sight. We now have Women in roles as diverse and critical as club President, Field Umpire, Goal Umpire, club coach, representative team coach, and Game Development staff, as well as having players at both Youth Girls and Women’s level.
Our game is so much richer for the involvement of Women at all levels.
The luncheon has been organised to celebrate the involvement of women in local footy and is open to any woman interested in attending.
Full details of the luncheon can be found in the invitation. Any women wishing to attend are to RSVP to by Friday 28 September.
