Junior competition is underway

There were smiles on faces everywhere as Junior footy returned to ovals across the region with round 1 matches played on Sunday.

One of the highlights of the first round was the debut of the South West Rocks Dockers in the Under 11 competition. The Dockers become the 11th club in the Junior competition which reflects incredible growth considering that there were only six clubs with teams actively participating in 2015.

The Dockers marked their first match with their maiden win, booting three goals in the third quarter to record victory over the Port Macquarie Magpies Black team.

Other winners in the Under 11 competition were Coffs Breakers Dark, Nambucca Valley Lions, Sawtell Toormina Saints, and the Port Macquarie Magpies White.

Bellingen Bulldogs celebrated a new area with the first home games at Connell Park, right in the heart of Bellingen. The club’s Under 13 team were the first to claim a victory on the hallowed turf, edging Coffs Breakers in a match where the Doggies trailed until late in the third quarter.

Other winners in the Under 13 competition were Northern Beaches Blues, Grafton Tigers, Manning Valley Mustangs, and Port Macquarie Magpies.

There were two thrilling games in the Youth Girls competition, with Grafton Tigers edging reigning Premiers Coffs Breakers by just four points , whilst Macleay Valley Eagles and Port Macquarie Magpies were involved in a free-scoring shootout that saw Port claim the win.

In the Under 15 competition Sawtell Toormina Saints and Bellingen Bulldogs set the early competition pace, racking up strong wins over the Grafton Tigers and Macleay Valley Eagles respectively.
