PORT Macquarie’s two senior teams recorded strong wins on Saturday to entrench their spots in the finals positions.

There’s still a lot of football left in 2022 but the Magpies have found form over the past couple of weeks.

The women’s team have now won three matches in a row after Saturday’s 45-point win over Sawtell/Toormina.

Those three wins have seen the Magpies women move up to second position on the ladder.

The Magpies jumped out to a great start kicking three unanswered goals in the first term to set up a substantial lead at Wayne Richards Park.

Chloe-Sue Gray was dangerous around goal for the home team kicking two of her team’s six goals while the defence was especially miserly refusing to allow the Saints to score.

Fast starts from Port Macquarie were the order of the day as the men did likewise kicking five goals to nil in the first term of their clash against the Saints.

Sawtell/Toormina fielded an undermanned outfit with five selected players unable to take the field after displaying Covid symptoms but the Saints dug deep after being on the wrong end of the opening onslaught.

The visitors narrowly outscored Port Macquarie in the last three quarters but the 31-point deficit at quarter time was too much to overcome.

Co-coach Braden Saggers kicked four goals for the Magpies while club stalwart Jesse Schmidt chimed in with three majors of his own to help the men’s team to a second straight win.

Tayler Perks and Todd Fagan kicked three goals each for Sawtell/Toormina.

This week the Magpies will have a bye while Sawtell/Toormina travels to Woolgoolga to face Northern Beaches.

Other matches this Weeknd will see the Coffs Breakers travel to Grafton.
