Angus makes impressive VFL debut

Angus Anderson celebrates kicking a goal in his VFL debut for the Sydney Swans.

Angus Anderson made a successful VFL debut even though the Sydney Swans couldn’t hold on to claim victory over the Footscray Bulldogs.

It was a tough setting to be making a debut, with the unbeaten Bulldogs sitting on top of the ladder against the Swans who were in 20th position in the 22 team competition.

Angus slotted into a team that featured 14 AFL listed players, including Paddy McCartin who was the number 1 selection in the 2014 draft, and Logan McDonald who the Swans selected at pick number four in last year’s draft.

Playing predominantly on the wing and half forward flank, the Swans coaching staff showed their faith in Angus when they moved him into the midfield for several centre bounces. Angus’ personal highlight came late in the second term when he booted his maiden VFL goal from a set shot on a wide angle.

Wearing the Swans heritage jumper Angus looked at home at VFL level.

The Swans went into the final quarter with a 30 point lead, but the undefeated Footscray side showed why they are sitting at the top of the table, storming home to kick 6 straight goals in the final quarter to secure a thrilling seven point victory.
