Force rep teams are ready to go!

Whilst most players are looking forward to this weekend’s general bye as a chance to take a break from footy, the region’s brightest talents are gearing up for the first of the season’s representative carnivals.

Four North Coast Force teams will be taking part in the Hunter Challenge Cup on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 June to face off against opponents Central Coast, Hunter Metro, and Hunter Country.

The Under 13, Under 15, Under 17, and Youth Girls (Under 17) teams will each play two matches per day where the focus of the carnival is on the collective performance of the whole representative program, with wins by each team combined to determine the overall champion. This format is instead of a winner being crowned in each age group so the Force teams will be out to support each other to achieve their best performance.

Nic Morgan, North Coast Force Representative Co-ordinator, said that excitement is high amongst all players and staff. “Rep footy was a casualty of COVID last year so it’s been two years since the Force teams took to the park. All of our players, coaches, and managers are chomping at the bit to get down to the Hunter and test themselves against these other quality teams.

“The Hunter Challenge Cup is a new addition to the representative calendar so we’re excited to have that opportunity and play more rep footy than in any previous year. It’s also a great way for our teams to tune up for our own Coffs Harbour carnival next month which will have more teams from more regions than ever before.”

The standard of club footy on the North Coast rises year on year and this has a positive impact on the quality of performance by the Force representative teams. With a number of male and female players in this year’s Sydney Swans Academy Top End program the region continues to make its mark as a producer of talented players with the potential to play state level footy and beyond.

Following the Hunter carnival, the next outing for the North Coast Force teams will be the Coffs Harbour Carnival to be played at Leisure Park on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 July.
